The emerged regime after the guerrilla's victory led by Fidel Castro during the Cold War regime still resists as a besieged fortress. Moreover, against predictions, it retains significant political influence in Latin America. The price paid by its population is very high, both in terms of rights and freedoms as food insecurity and quality of life. It isn't easy to explain this paradox: a failed regime in the domestic sphere is still recognized and respected externally. Cuba is an important juncture: the beginning of negotiations with the United States to restart interrupted relations half a century ago.

Keywords: Cuba, Latin America, Cuban Revolu-tion, Wages and prices, Cuba-US relations.
